Reverse Engineering Hackathon

“Same code. A deeper story.”

the brief

What it is

Re-InnovateX is a reverse engineering hackathon. Teams are given a broken, incomplete, malfunctioning or partially functional system — not its original source code.

Teams first understand the observable behaviour, then deconstruct how it works, then reconstruct or repair the required functionality, and finally introduce meaningful improvements beyond the reconstructed baseline. Same code. A deeper story.

the format

How it works

  1. Phase 1 · Understand & Observe

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Interact with the system, map behaviour, record inputs and outputs, document issues.

  2. Phase 2 · Deconstruction

11:00 AM – 1:30 PM. Analyse components, workflow, dependencies, data flow and failure points.

  3. Phase 3 · Reconstruction & Innovation

1:30 PM – 5:00 PM. Implement, integrate, debug, test and innovate; prepare documentation and demo.

  4. Round 2 · Presentations — October 16

Teams present and are evaluated on October 16. The poster allots 30 minutes of thinking / preparation time and 5 minutes of presentation time.
